Debunking Common Myths of Veneers

Living in our modern world, I’m sure you’ve heard a lot about veneers. Wondering if what you’ve heard is true? Let’s dig in and see what's the deal.

Will my veneers stink?

The horrible myth of veneer breath is not so pleasant to hear about (or actually smell)…we know. So, let's dive in and debunk it together. With the choice of the right cosmetic dentist **cough. cough*** Dr. P  πŸ˜, proper steps will be taken to avoid this. Sealing veneers without microleakage will eliminate the possibility of bad breath and is crucial to avoid saliva and food seeping in.

Of course, it is not 100% of the dentist's responsibility as when you leave their chair, it is yours to follow the proper aftercare guidelines and stay on top of the maintenance and hygiene of your stunning veneers. This includes brushing, flossing, and even the option of water flossing.

Teeth Decaying Underneath my Veneers

I know you don’t want tooth decay … spoiler alert, we don’t want that for you either. As we discussed previously, when there is not enough seal between the tooth and the veneers, that’s when saliva and food seep in. While prepping veneers, the cosmetic dentist needs to remove all cavities while restoring it properly to avoid future decay (ex. Dental Caries.)

Here at SmilesbyDrP, we take proper precautions by cementing properly without external interruptions (moisture, saliva)

Teeth Will be Shaved Down

The most common myth of all…that veneers will ruin your natural teeth. Here at SmilesbyDrP, we offer minimum prep and no prep options depending on your teeth condition and previous dental work. Contact us today and set up a consultation to find out.

Will my veneers break easily?

I’m sure you’ve seen videos on social media and online of that one girl who bites into an apple causing her veneers to fall out. Scary, right? What if I told you that porcelain veneers are actually 2-3x stronger than your natural teeth . When bonded to your teeth correctly, they are highly durable and able to withstand the same forces as your natural teeth. Of course even with your natural teeth, if you don't take proper care of them - for instance biting on ice or using your teeth to open bottles - it can potentially cause chips and damage.

Veneers are only for Celebrities or People in the Public Eye

I know veneers are very common with people in the public eye  so I get why you only correlated it to them. However, many of our patients get veneers to help enhance their smiles and confidence. Your smile is contagious and it’s the best positive reinforcement you can have. It will make you feel better about yourself and your confidence will radiate in your work, dating, and personal life.
